  • Pier 122 Bulk materials (defunct), Conrail Historical Societ (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
This is Pier 122, the former iron ore import pier. Was also adapted to unload other commodities such as rock salt until it closed in 1998.
  • Pier 124 Coal Export (defunct), Conrail Historical Societ (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
This is not an ore export pier. This facility was designed to export coal by the Pennsylvania railroad and featured a pair of rotary-dumpers feeding a massive traveling ship-loader. This facility closed around 1991 when the coal export business from Philly dried up.

  • Chamounix Mansion, drrobrx wrote 16 years ago:
Another discovery of mine on bike bicycle meanderings through the park. Its an old mansion which is now used as a hostel and event center. Directly adjacent to the house is an entrance to a system of hike/bike trails which twists thorugh the forested part of the park. Its a very interesting site where you can see some old remnants of walls and other brick contstruction.
  • The Smith Civil War Memorial, drrobrx wrote 16 years ago:
I added this to the map after seeing it on a bike ride around Philly. Its quite a spectacular sight which rivals the types of monuments which are common in europe. Surpisingly its known by few.
